Apps are software programs that do something specific. The camera, Netflix, YouTube, and Maps are all examples of apps. Many apps are optimized to make use of the special features your device offers. There are over two million apps in the App Store.
Some apps are free, many range in price from $1.99 to $9.99, with a few costing more. Some apps are free for a basic version and have additional features you can buy as you use the app (called in-app purchases).

Say “Siri, search the app store for workout apps” and let Siri do the work.
Tap an app in the App Store to view details, screenshots, and reviews from users of the app. You’ll be required to be signed in to your Apple account with Touch ID or Face ID before downloading and installing any app, free or otherwise.
After the app is installed, you’ll find its button on a Home screen. You can move that button to any Home screen you want. You’ll also see the app in your App Library in the Recently Added folder.
Apps usually require you to grant some permissions during installation. For instance, Instagram and Facebook must have access to your camera in order to function. Many programs, like weather apps, will need access to your location services to know which local forecast to display. Many apps will need access to your phone, not to make calls without your knowledge, but so they don’t interfere with calls you might be receiving or making. Although these permissions sometimes look intimidating, you are in control of their actual use.
Apps often need updates to address issues with performance or security or to add features. Updates download and install automatically when your phone is connected to Wi-Fi. If the app requires additional permissions (for example, a new feature requires access to your photos or location) then the app will ask for those new permissions the next time you open it.
It is a good idea to remove apps you don’t use anymore. Unused apps take up memory you may need for pictures and other important files.
