The Control Center groups important controls in one location. Think of the Control Center as a shortcut to over 20 controls and utilities that you frequently use.
The Control Center is available from any screen, including the Lock screen. You can add functions to the Control Center to customize it to your needs.
To open the Control Center on an iPhone:
- On an iPhone with Face ID, swipe down from the upper-right corner.
- On an iPhone with a Home button, swipe up from the bottom.
Control Center: Buttons, sliders, and expanded menus
You’ll find several types of controls in the Control Center.
- Buttons. Tap an app’s button to toggle it on or off.
- Sliders. Touch and drag sliders to adjust things like brightness and volume.
- Expanding menus. Some apps have additional options that will pop up if you tap or touch and hold the button. For instance, tap Focus, and a number of Focus types will appear. Touch and hold Camera
and a menu will appear with options for pictures, videos, and portraits.
Apps in Control Center
Here are some apps you will find in or can add to the Control Center.
- Turn off/on cellular radio
. Turns off cellular transmission from your phone. - Airplane mode
. Turns off all radio transmissions (cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth) emanating from your device. You can selectively turn Wi-Fi or Bluetooth back on, but cellular transmissions will remain off until you turn off Airplane mode. - Wi-Fi
. Tap to disconnect from your current Wi-Fi hotspot. (Wi-Fi remains on to continue any connection to Apple TV and AirDrop.) Visit Settings
> Wi-Fi to turn off Wi-Fi, connect to Wi-Fi networks, and manage existing network connections. - Bluetooth
. Bluetooth is a low-power wireless connection to headphones, speakers, and other external devices. - Focus. Opens Focus options to silence calls and notifications. You can set exceptions for contacts designated as Favorites and repeated calls as well as schedule a daily time period for quiet in Settings
> Focus. - Screen orientation lock
. Locks your display in the current portrait or landscape position. - Screen brightness slider
. Drag up or down to control screen brightness. Touch and hold or 3D Touch to open and access Dark Mode and Night Shift. Dark mode makes the background menus darker. Night shift makes the light emanating from your phone warmer (less blue). According to some studies, traditional smartphone light can affect your sleep by causing your brain to produce less melatonin. - Music controls
. Start and stop music and streaming audio apps. Touch and hold or 3D Touch to open and access additional controls. - Screen Mirroring
. Stream video and audio content from your iPhone to a tablet, laptop, or Apple TV. - Flashlight
. Tap to turn on. Touch and hold or 3D Touch to open brightness controls. - Timer
. Tap to open the Clock, Timer, Alarm app. - Calculator
. Standard calculator. Rotate your iPhone to landscape orientation to open a scientific calculator. - Camera
. Touch to open. Touch and hold or 3D Touch to open Quick Actions and choose to take a selfie, photo, or video.
Customizing the Control Center
You can customize the Control Center with the controls you use the most.
- Go to Settings
> Control Center. - Tap
or
to add and remove controls. - Touch and drag
to rearrange the order of display. - Swipe up or press the Home button to save your changes and close Settings.
