How to Update Your Device
If your device is compatible with iOS17 you will get reminders to update your device. If you prefer to wait and see if the initial update causes problems, you can decline and update at your leisure. When you’re ready, you’ll find the update available in Settings. Make sure you backup your pictures and files, charge your device, and stay plugged in for the best results. By default, Apple will not upgrade using your cellular plan (you can change this in Settings). When you’re ready:
- Go to Settings > General.
- Select Software Update.
- Select Download & Install and follow the prompts.
The download and installation are separate operations. Together they can take 30 minutes or more depending on your download speed. You won’t be able to use your iPhone during the update process.
Your iPhone is initially set to update automatically. You have the option to modify this by going to Settings > Software Update and disabling Automatic Updates. It’s essential to keep in mind that updates frequently address bugs and enhance security, so keeping your device up-to-date is crucial.
