Safari is the default browser for iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The Safari button is in the Dock by default. The basic layout of the browser is shown below. Rotating to landscape orientation will change the page content flow (text and images) to a wider perspective.
The Safari browser features a Reader View that removes banners, menus, and advertisements and only displays the text of the main article and the pictures that are embedded in the article. Reader view is one of my favorite Safari features. I love to read without having to dodge popups and other annoying web distractions. If Reader View is available on a web page, Safari will briefly display Reader View Available in the address bar. Tap AA in the address bar, then tap Show Reader.
Notice how the banner and other clutter are removed in the following screenshots.
Tap Share at the bottom of the Safari window to open sharing options. Scroll down to see all options.
You can open a web page in private mode if you don’t want your browser to record your searches or the web pages you visit.
Remember that using a private browsing window does not make you anonymous on the internet or hide your online activities from your internet provider or, if you are browsing at work, from your company’s IT department. Private browsing only means that Safari will delete your history and website cookies from your device when you close the browser. Files and bookmarks are not deleted. See our courses on cybersecurity for more important information on staying safe online.
Long press a hyperlink to preview the destination webpage without leaving the page you are on. A Quick Actions menu will also appear, allowing you to open the new page in a new tab or add the page to your Reading List. Touch anywhere outside of the preview to close it.
You can choose the location of the URL and search box.
