What Android OS version do I have?

A new version of Android is released in September every year. Security updates and feature improvements are released throughout each year. Not every phone will receive the annual update. Your eligibility for an update depends on the make and model of your phone and if your cellular company (ATT, T-Mobile, etc.) provides that update to your device. The OS you have will determine what features you have on your phone. To check your version of Android:

  1. Open Settings . (Or swipe down from the top of the screen to open Quick Settings, then swipe down again to expand Quick Settings.)
  2. Tap About phone (or About device).
  3. Scroll down to Android version (or Software info) to view the operating system version on your device.
The Android version shown here is 12.

In this manual, we’ll cover the basic functions common to all Android devices running version 12. Your device may look and operate differently than the instructions and illustrations shown here because manufacturers customize Android for their devices. Layouts also depend on the screen size and orientation (how the device is being held).
