Google Chrome

Chrome  is the default browser installed on Android smartphones, tablets, and Chromebooks. The Chrome icon is in the Favorites tray by default. The basic layout of the browser is shown below. Rotating to landscape orientation will change the flow to a wider perspective.

The More menu

There are a few commands you will use often:

  • Tap Favorite  (at the top of the More menu) to bookmark a page.
  • Tap New incognito tab to open a tab where Chrome will not record the websites you visit.
  • Tap Share… to send a link to the page you are viewing.

Tabs

Tabs allow you to have more than one web page open at a time. The number of tabs you have open is displayed in the Tabs button . In this example, I have two open tabs. Tap this button, and Chrome will display each tab as a thumbnail.

  • Tap + New tab to open a blank new tab. You can also tap More  , then New tab.
  • Tap a tab to make it the active tab.
  • Tap the X on a tab to close it.

Incognito mode

You can open a web page in incognito mode if you don’t want your browser to record your searches or the web pages you visit.

  • Open Chrome and tap More , then New incognito tab.
  • To exit incognito mode, tap Tabs , then close the tab.

Syncing

Chrome automatically syncs your browsing history and bookmarks to your account, allowing you to pick up where you left off on another device, as long as you are signed in to Chrome with the same Google account. If you prefer Chrome not to sync data between devices:

  • Tap More  > Settings the settings cog button > Sync, then toggle off Sync everything.
