Google Contacts

Contacts are the people you communicate with. You can record multiple phone numbers and email addresses, as well as street addresses and much more in the Contacts app. Contacts integrate with Gmail and with your phone app on your smartphone. Your contact list can store multiple phone numbers and email addresses and can be used for making phone calls as well as sending messages.

Finding the Contact app

  1. At the top of any Google page (Google Docs, Gmail, YouTube, etc.), click Google apps "" (1).
  2. Click Contacts (2).

Adding a contact manually

Add your friends and business associates to your Contacts list for quick access to email addresses, phone numbers, notes, and other information.

  1. Click Create Contact.
  2. Enter information as needed in the Create contact form. Click Show more to expand the form and add notes, birthdays, and more. You can add more than one phone number and email address for each contact.
  3. Click Add Contact Picture to upload an image for your contact.
  4. Click Save when finished adding information about your new contact. You can always come back and edit any contact.

Adding a contact from an email

You can add a new contact directly from an email using the sender’s information contained in with the message.

  1. In Gmail, hover over the sender’s name and wait for the contact information box to appear. Click Add to contacts "".
  2. Add to Contacts "" will change to Edit Contact "". Click Edit Contact "" to open the contact in the Contact app for editing.
  3. If it says Edit Contact "" rather than Add to Contacts "", the sender is already in your contacts.

Note: When addressing emails, Gmail will try and fill your To: box with email addresses from your Contacts and Groups. Click a suggestion to fill the box and address the message.

Editing contact information

Sometimes you need to change information about contacts you have created. For example, when someone’s email address changes, you will need to edit their record in Contacts.

  1. From the Contacts app, find and click on the name of the contact you wish to edit.
  2. Click Edit contact"" to open the contact for editing.
  3. Make changes to the information you need to update.
  4. Click Save when finished editing.

If you receive a message indicating that an email you sent could not be delivered, check that you have the person’s correct email address and that you entered it correctly. Any misspelling will mean the email will not be deliverable.

Deleting contacts

You can delete contacts as needed.

  1. Hover over a name in your Contacts list (additional options will appear with the hover), or open a contact by clicking on the name from the list.
  2. Click More actions "" (1), then Delete (2).

Using labels to set up groups

If you regularly send messages to the same group of people, create a label (the old Groups feature) and add the label to the contacts you want to include in the group. You can then easily send messages to the entire group by typing the group name into the “To” box, rather than adding names individually.

  1. In the Labels section in the left-hand pane, click Create label.
  2. Type in a name for your new label and click Save.
  3. With each contact you want to add to the group, click More actions "", then click each label name to which you want to add the contact.

Now when you want to send a message to everyone in the group, type the label name and Gmail will add all the names with the label to your recipient list automatically.
