Turning Your Android On and Off

Turning your device on is easy; press and hold the Power button. Turning it off is a little more complicated.

Turning your device on

Press and hold the Power button until the device logo appears on the screen. Your device will go through a startup routine (boot) and open to the lock screen. Unlock and your device is ready to use.

Turning your device off

There is more than one way to power off your device, depending on the make and model. Your phone may use one or more of the following:

  • On many Android phones, you can hold the Power button for a few seconds, then select Power off from the Power Options menu.
  • Newer Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S10, Note10, S20, Note20, S21, or S22 series require you to simultaneously hold the Power button and Volume Down to make the Power Options menu appear.
  • On the Pixel 6, press the Power and Volume Up buttons together, then select Power off.
  • Swipe down (twice) to open Notifications and Settings, tap Power, then select Power off.
