Google Assistant is a personal assistant that responds to voice commands. Google Assistant can understand natural speech—there is no need to memorize commands. Keep in mind that background noise can make it difficult for Google Assistant to pick out your voice from other sounds. You must be connected to the Internet to use Google Assistant.
Google Assistant can now translate words from 109 languages. Ask Google Assistant, “How do you say [the phrase you want to translate] in [language to translate to]?
Google Assistant will speak the translation out loud, which can certainly help with pronunciation.
To launch Google Assistant:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
Say, “Hey Google.” Must be enabled in Settings > Apps > Assistant > Say “Hey Google.” Your phone will display Hi, how can I help? on the screen. Google Assistant is now ready for your voice command.
Updates shows upcoming events, reminders, and tips.
Google Lens is a separate app that can recognize objects, bar codes, and QR codes.
Explore will show news and more capabilities of Assistant.
Here are some examples of instructions that Google Assistant understands:
Say “I have a meeting today at 2 PM,” and Google Assistant will offer set a calendar appointment for 2 PM today. Tap Add an event to my calendar and Assistant will ask for more details before confirming that you want to save it.
Say, “Take me home,” and Google Assistant will open Maps and start turn-by-turn guidance to your home. Google Assistant will find your address in your account details if you entered it.
You can ask questions like, “What is the confirmation number for my flight?” or “What time should I leave for my appointment?” Google Assistant will answer based on what information it can find in your emails and calendar.
You can also use Google Assistant to turn features on and off like Airplane Mode, Do Not Disturb, Flashlight, and Bluetooth. Just say, “Activate/Deactivate [feature].“
