Use the Quick Settings panel for fast access to your most frequently used settings, like Wi-Fi, Do Not Disturb, and the flashlight.
Accessing Quick Settings
Swipe down once with one finger from the top screen edge to reveal the first few Quick Settings. You’ll see a list of recent notifications under the settings. Swipe again to open the full Quick Settings panel. You can swipe down once with two fingers to open the full Quit Settingspanel. Settings are shown as tiles (icons).
Tap a tile to turn it on or off. Touch and pause to open Settings for full control and more options. Swipe left to open the second page of settings.
The functionality of the short settings bar or full settings panel is the same. The full settings panel simply gives you access to the editing function and the settings on the second page.
You can customize Quick Settings. Open the full panel and tap Edit (the pencil icon at the bottom), then touch a tile, pause and drag it on or off the panel, or rearrange.
The features you’ll find depend on your device, but some of the options include:
Screen brightness. Drag the slider to increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.
Internet. Tap the Internet button to turn Wi-Fi on or off. Touch and pause to open Wi-Fi settings to choose and connect to a hotspot. When Wi-Fi is on and your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network, all data usage occurs over the Wi-Fi network and does not use cellular data.
A fully black icon indicates a strong Wi-Fi signal.
An icon that is partially black indicates a weaker signal.
Airplane mode. Tap to turn airplane mode on or off. Airplane mode turns off all radio signal transmissions from your device (cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and near-field communications). FAA rules changed in late 2013 to allow passengers to “use their devices in airplane mode, gate-to-gate.” It is prohibited to use your cellular service for voice or data communications (connecting to the ground) at any time during a flight. If you need Wi-Fi, you must connect to the airplane’s Wi-Fi system, if available.
Auto-Rotate. Tap the auto-rotation button to lock the screen in the current (landscape or portrait) mode.
Flashlight. Tap to turn on the LED flash to use as a flashlight (if equipped).
Do Not Disturb. Tap to silence rings and notifications.
Bluetooth. Tap to turn on or off, tap and hold to open and connect Bluetooth devices, like wireless headphones, to your device.
