Backing up to iTunes

You can back up your device to your desktop or laptop using iTunes. This creates a copy of most of the apps, files, settings and photos on your computer. You are only limited by the storage space on your computer. You must also physically connect your device with a USB cable.

You can encrypt the data in your backup if you wish. You must encrypt your data if you want to include any health data, saved passwords, Wi-Fi settings, or website history in your backup file. Once turned on, Encrypt Backup will remain on and encrypt all future backups until turned off.

Note: You will need to create a password to encrypt your data. Do not lose your password! There is no way to recover your information or turn off Encrypt Backup if you lose or forget the password.

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer.
  2. Connect your device to the computer using a USB cable.
  3. Click Library and make sure your device is shown in the left navigation pane.
  4. Right-click the device and select Back Up.
